It started as a feeling—not as a business plan

After more than a decade designing digital products, I wanted to create something tangible. Something with texture, ritual, and weight.

The idea formed in Los Angeles, over a cup of good matcha. It wasn’t just about taste—it was about the moment it created.

I brought that feeling home to London—a city famous for tea, but not this kind—and started Idle Hour.

This isn’t a brand built on borrowed symbols or superficial minimalism. It’s a modern matcha company, grounded in genuine respect for Japanese tradition and thoughtful design.

Idle Hour exists between cultures and disciplines, inspired by Japanese craftsmanship without imitation. Honoring its depth, but with a global lens on how matcha is enjoyed.

I source small batches of matcha directly from Japanese farmers and partner with artists and makers around the world to curate accessories and ceramics as considered as the tea itself. Every detail matters—not for perfection, but for care.

Idle Hour isn’t about stillness or escape. It’s about building something real—a lifestyle shaped by taste, design, and the value of taking time.
